Understanding the Traditional Chinese Tea Cup

If you are new to traditional Chinese tea culture, you might have a few questions about how these cups are designed and used:

• Why are there no handles? A Chinese tea cup with no handle is meant to be held by the rim or cradled in the palm. If the cup is too hot to hold, the tea is too hot to drink! This naturally prevents you from burning your tongue.

• Do these cups come with lids or infusers? Traditional Chinese tea cups are used strictly for drinking, not brewing. Therefore, they do not include built-in infusers or filters.
